Jun. 7, 2006 - Anniversary of the Maiden Voyage of the Freewinds
It hardly seems possible that the Freewinds Maiden Voyage happened 18 years ago. I remember it clearly when it happened. There was such excitement. On the Scientology Press site there is a description of the Freewinds and the Maiden Voyage.
A unique Church of Scientology is the Flag Ship Service Organization — located aboard the Motor Vessel Freewinds,
a 440-foot ship based in the Caribbean. The ship was acquired in the
mid-1980s shortly before the release of the highest advanced auditing
level now available. Needing a safe, aesthetic, distraction-free
environment appropriate for ministration of this level of auditing, it
was decided to return to the sea, far from the crossroads of the
workaday world. An annual Maiden Voyage event is attended by
Scientology parishioners from around the world — many of whom completed
this advanced auditing level on the original Maiden Voyage in 1988.
While there, they participate in specialized training which enables
them to assume a greater leadership role in their respective religious
communities. Each year, in celebration of the
Maiden Voyage of the Freewinds, top Scientologists from around the
planet meet aboard the Freewinds to review the news of the expansion of
Scientology over the past year and to plan and coordinate the coming
year's activities. David Miscavige, Chairman of the Board of Religious Technology Center,
usually presents the overview of the past year's work at the first
night's event, and acts as master of ceremonies for each
subsequent night. Then, several weeks later, DVDs of these events are shown at every Scientology church on earth, so that all Scientologists know the plans for the coming year and what they can do contribute to accomplishing the Aims of Scientology:
"A civilization without insanity, without criminals and without war,
where the able can prosper and honest beings can have rights, and where
man is free to rise to greater heights."
