"NO PROBLEMS IN THE SQUAD"Mar. 9, 2006
Javier Zanetti was interviewed by Sky Italia before this afternoon's training session at Angelo Moratti Sports Centre. Here's what the Inter captain had to say:

Your comments on the moment Inter are going through? Is it right to think that the two defeats to Fiorentina and Juventus have broken a few mechanisms?
"I don't think anything has been broken. Unfortunately we lost two matches we didn't deserve to lose. We haven't collected many points from our last matches but the team has showed in all these matches that it is capable of continuing with strength and has the courage to put things right. This is football and we have to realise this."

It has been reported that there has been a split in the Inter squad. Is this true?
"Every time things aren't going well they say the squad has been split and that we don't get on with one another. I can guarantee that this is not true. We're training serenely and with all our strength to try and win every match. The moment we are going through is only delicate because of the results. If you look at Sunday's match against Roma, Inter played better, apart from the first twenty minutes."

Are you a bit disappointed with how things are going in the championship?
"We're certainly a bit disappointed because we would prefer to be further up in the table. But we mustn't feel sorry for ourselves. We must try and make the best finish to the championship and get as many points as we can from now until the end."

What have Inter lacked in this year's championship?
"We started well. Unfortunately we dropped points in the week when we faced Roma, Sampdoria and Lazio in the first half of the season. Perhaps we deserved a bit more, but the results didn't come."

You are one of the most present players in Inter's history. Would you be pleased if the club withdrew your number four shirt when you end your career?
"These things are always pleasing. I have always said that I feel at home at Inter. This is why I have stayed here for many years and I want to finish my career at Inter."

Would you like to be an Inter executive when you end your playing career?
"I still haven't asked myself this. If the club wants me to stay and work here, I would willingly stay."

They say that Juan Sebastian Veron might stay on again next season. The club is trying to convince him to stay. Have you also tried to?
"These are personal choices that must be respected. We all know how important Veron is for Inter, both on and off the pitch. We hope he stays."

There's talk of Ballack arriving if Veron doesn't stay...

"Ballack is a fantastic player, but I think that Veron has shown and is showing all his value at Inter."

How much is said in the Inter dressing room about a possible return of Ronaldo?
"We haven't spoken about it. There are rumours of new arrivals every time things aren't going well. We will see how the season finishes then the club will assess the situation and make its decisions."

You have played with Ronaldo. Would you be pleased to have him back?
"We're talking about a great champion, but it's still too soon to say."

Did you see how Juventus qualified for the Champions League quarter-finals?
"I honestly didn't see the match, but I have seen the highlights and it was certainly tough-going for them. They believed until the end and were rewarded."

Are Barcelona the best team around at the moment?
"They're a fantastic team who are playing excellent football, and they are one of the favourites to win the Champions League final."

Are you worried that there might be another Italian Champions League derby?
"Anything could happen. But the most important thing for us is to win our tie with Ajax first and get through the round."

Adriano hasn't scored for a while. Is this a problem?
"Adri knows it's a difficult moment. He's doing his best in training to help us win every match he plays in. We all have to give that bit extra at the moment, and we are all willing to."
