The Aid Workers Network offers "Practical Advice for Aid Workers, by Aid Workers." More than 10,000 relief and development workers registered with the Network in its first four years, sharing questions, answers, resources and perspectives regarding their work worldwide. In 2006, the core volunteers that support and maintain the AWN intensely researched, explored and worked to make the network more valuable to its members, primarily through updating the Network web site. The result, with support from Oxfam and the British Red Cross, is a new web site with an easier-to-use online discussion forum, advice pages written by members, the launch of the "Exchange Email Bulletin," and a section to highlight blogs by aid workers worldwide. Current members can update their their online profile to provide information about themselves and their work, and what issues are most important to each, and new members can create accounts to share such as well. Whether you are a current or previous paid staff member, consultant or volunteer working in aid and development, anywhere in the world, the Aid Workers Network is YOUR community, with a wealth of experience at your disposal. (In the interest of full disclosure -- I'm on the volunteer advisory panel for AWN.)
