I recently had the pleasure of presenting to volunteer coordinators from GreenPeace offices all over the world about online volunteering. As part of my presentation, since activists are volunteers, I also offered a list of my favorite web sites focused on resources relating to online activism. These web sites include real-life examples, tips on how to mobilize online activists, and cautionary tales. Here is that list:- MobileActive.org
A resource for activists using mobile technology - NetAction
This nonprofit organization is dedicated to promoting effective grassroots citizen action campaigns and its web site has lots of great advice for organizations looking into mobilizing activism via the Internet, including accounts of what's worked and what hasn't ’or various agencies. - Wikipedia entry for Internet Activism
An excellent introduction to online activism, with a plethora of links to more information. - Online Organizing - Guide by ONE/Northwest
ONE/Northwest is a not-for-profit consulting firm that helps environmental groups. Its toolkit has excellent information for any organization regarding online activism. - Beth's Blog: How Nonprofits Can Use Social Media
Provides terrific, up-to-date examples of using "social media" to engage activists and other supporters. - NetSquared and the New Wave of Online Volunteering (and maybe all volunteering)
Includes a highlight of a successful online effort by the Greenpeace USA office. - Handling Online Criticism
- Handheld computer technologies in community service/volunteering/advocacy
- Alliance for Justice
Online information on free and low-cost publications regarding nonprofits, advocacy and USA law (but even though this is USA-focused, activists in other countries should still find it helpful).
