When reading Around the World in Eighty Days (required reading by anyone who wants to travel abroad), I came across a phrase, transire benefaciendo. It's Latin and means "to travel along while doing good."

There are lots of ways you can do good while you travel. It doesn't have to be a highly-paid volunteer "vacation" either (note that organizations that place highly-skilled humanitarian workers such as VSO discourage people from such anyway). My page, transire benefaciendo reviews simple things you can do to do "good" while on vacation in a developing country or poor community, worthwhile volunteer vacations within the USA, how to evaluate a pay-to-volunteer-abroad program, how to volunteer abroad so that your efforts are focused primarily on those in need, and much more.
