Help dogs & cats in Afghanistan -- PLEASE

I'm going off-topic on my blog, but I'm desperate to get the word out about something: as those of you who know me personally already know, I am heart-broken at the way dogs are treated here in Afghanistan. They are considered absolute filth. They are beneath contempt. And this view is pre-Islamic -- there's NOTHING in the Koran that condones or encourages this behavior. It will take profound, comprehensive, long-term activities to change this belief.

In the meantime, what can be done to help dogs and cats here?

Through luck, I've managed to connect to a well-established British animal welfare group working right here in Kabul, and have been talking with one of their folks via email. They are doing great work -- tieing their work to local veterinary training programs, and spaying and neutering animals and then trying to find homes for them (mostly with expats, but they've had some success with local Afghan families).

You can read more about them here online, and I'm asking you to PLEASE consider making a donation. This money will make a different right here in Afghanistan!! So many times, I hear people say, "I'd like to give money, but how do I know it will really make a difference?" This is a way to REALLY make a difference. And if I can at all handle it emotionally, I'll be making a site visit to this shelter in the coming weeks, and post about it online.
