The International Bicycle Fund, a non-governmental, nonprofit advocacy organization that promotes sustainable transport and international understanding, has announced the dates of its African, Asian and South American bike travel programs. Trips include visits to traditional villages, national parks, wildlife viewing, important local sites, and extraordinarily beautiful scenery of western Uganda and a lot of people contact. These are excellent opportunities to gain a better understanding the lifestyles, history, culture and economics of the people. These trips are around two weeks each, and cost anywhere from $1190 to $1790, plus airfare. These cultural travel programs are IBF's main source of revenue. You can view full schedule and more details online. I have never been on an IBF trip; I'm just a huge supporter of anything that promotes alternatives to cars and inter-cultural understanding. I'm a big fan of IBF, particularly its page on encouraging bicycling and sustainable transport and its page on urban planning & design
