Like KIVA, the web site DonorsChoose.org allows donors to review projects needing funding -- in this case, projects in schools in the USA -- and to choose which projects they want to donate to. While KIVA gives loans, DonorsChoose.org is giving gifts; the money isn't paid back. Notice how many of the gifts asked for on DonorsChoose.org won't help just one class for one year; they will help many students for at least a few years.

But, ofcourse, you don't need a web site to help schools on an individual project in which you feel passionate about: you can call or email a local public high school in your community and ask how you could help fund a project focused on what you think is most important to young people: a literacy program, a theater production, science equipment, the school newspaper, the girl's basketball team, the chess club, whatever. Even $25 is appreciated -- and you can also volunteer to help such activities directly.
