High Blood Pressure SimplifiedJun. 11, 2006

What is High Blood Pressure?

Elevated blood pressure could be rise in pressure imposed by circulating blood on the present artery walls as a general reaction to strain or physical work. However, if this pressure keeps on constantly high (high blood pressure as it is known), it can exhaust your arteries and heart. High blood pressure may cause arterial disease, heart attacks and strokes.

Blood Pressure Measurement

Your blood pressure is read in two values, the systolic, where blood exert pressure when it comes into artery from the heart and the second is diastolic, where blood exert prssure when the heart ventricles repose between beats. Medical practitioners measure it in millimeters of mercury (mm Hg).

Extreme Bloodpressure might be made clear in an adult as the blood pressure greater than or same as 140 mm Hg systolic pressure, or higher or equal to 90 mm Hg diastolic pressure. However, a blood pressure reading more than 140/90 determines hypertension and is considered strange at any age.
